90% of clothes on the high street are made from 'upland cotton'. There are over 40 types of cotton - before we spent time in Peru we had no idea about this.

Cotton is just cotton, right?! Turns out there are some big differences. And some real reasons why you’re going to love organic Peruvian Pima cotton.

Peruvian Pima cotton is the finest cotton in the world.

We learnt a lot about this cotton during our time in Peru. We met with farmers, cooperatives, and many clothes manufacturers. We visited cotton fields and ginning factories, where cotton goes to be cleaned after being handpicked in the fields. Everyone we met was very proud of their native cotton.

Peruvian Pima cotton is difficult to get your hands on - it makes up less than 1% of all cotton grown globally. The organic kind is even rarer (we don’t sell anything other than organic Peruvian Pima cotton). Unfortunately, it’s dying out because fast fashion means there’s more demand for cheaper, low-quality cotton rather than high-quality cotton.

A rare beauty! Peruvian Pima cotton fibres are longer and stronger. It’s an exceptional quality cotton, renowned globally. This is the best cotton there is.

Why does Peruvian Pima cotton make the best baby clothes?

We wanted to get this soft cotton into more peoples’ hands.

When we were in Peru learning all about this cotton, it struck us that organic Peruvian Pima cotton was the perfect cotton for babies. It’s pretty nice for us adults too! But given the benefits, it made more sense that we should make baby clothes from the softest cotton in the world.

Baby clothes made from this organic cotton are luxuriously soft and hypoallergenic. This means they’re ideal for precious, newborn skin. Other fabrics are rougher to the touch and irritate baby’s delicate skin, especially after several washes. I've suffered with sensitive skin and eczema forever and know what a pain it can be - and how important it is to wear the right fabrics that are soft and less likely to cause itchy skin and rashes.

This is not just marketing spiel. Our baby clothes are objectively softer. This is because Peruvian Pima cotton fibres are double the length of all other cottons, making for stronger and smoother fabrics. They’re extra durable too so they make the perfect hand-me-downs and second-hand baby clothes. A big tick for sustainability.Newborn baby sleeping in moses basket wearing plain onesie

Sustainable clothes for your baby start with organic cotton.

Peruvian Pima cotton is one of the most sustainable cottons. The organic kind is even more sustainable. We decided right at the start to use exclusively organic cotton in our collections.

It is rare and it is more expensive but it’s worth it. Organic cotton means no chemicals and less water. This is better for the babies wearing NINA clothes, not to mention the cotton farmers, the soil, and the environment generally.

Peru has the perfect climate for growing cotton. It makes sense to grow cotton here. This sounds obvious until you remember that many crops are genetically modified to grow in places they wouldn't naturally grow in. Peruvian Pima cotton has been flourishing naturally in Peru since the Incas (a long time ago!). Another tick for sustainability.

Stylish and sustainable baby clothes.

We know that ethical and sustainable baby clothes are important to our customers. But too many brands sacrifice style, substance, and quality for this.

This is why we've been so excited to share our new collection with you - luxurious baby clothes made from super soft organic Peruvian Pima cotton. Stylish and sustainable.
